The Single Girl's Survival Guide

Synopsis:

What’s life like for the single girl in the post-Sex and the City and Bridget Jones era? Imogen Lloyd Webber—who’s 30 and happily unwed—tells all, in a smart and sassy guide to work, mind, body, home, friends, socializing, and, of course, dating and sex. She even creates her own shorthand for discussing relationships, explaining what the difference is between a SMBF (Straight Male Best Friend) and a PMDL (Promise Much, Delivers Little) boy. You’ll find funny and realistic girl talk about everything from dealing with family, Valentine’s Day, and being a “plus one” to gynecologist appointments, apartment decorating, and roommate disasters. There’s savvy advice on picking guys up too, but the focus is always on the fabulous single girl herself.

My Review

Well, it was an interesting read. I can’t say that I agree with Miss Webber. Yes, it is Miss not Ms. I checked to make sure I was correct. I am even a Miss & not a Ms. though it is acceptable.

The Miss salutation is used to address an unmarried woman or a young woman. The Ms. salutation was brought into use so that women would have a two letter salutation like men do. It can mean a married or unmarried woman & is acceptable. The Mrs. salutation is for married women or a widowed woman. Most time a divorced woman will not use the Mrs. salutation but she will use the Ms. one.

My main problem with the book is how Miss Webber’s main focus was booze & sex. Give me a break, there are other points to life then getting drunk or having sex. I have a wonderful relationships with my friends & none of it involves getting drunk or sex.

I also don’t necessarily agree with her opinion that you have to “manage” everyone in your life or “train” them. If people can not accept you for who you are then leave them behind. They are not worth your time.

But then not all women can stand to be single either. It takes a backbone of steel to remain single sometimes. Trust me, I know.

I do agree that you should pamper yourself, but not to the point that you let your household fall apart. Remember, your home is your temple (my definition). In my case, my home is not my temple it is just my bedroom. No male is allowed in it. I know I am weird. My bedroom is set like a princess, pillows galore, soft covers & down mattress covers, etc. When I try to sleep, I want to be very comfortable. I spent a fortune on my covers & pillows, but it was my money when I had it. I hate satin & silk on my skin, so I have wonderful pure cotton sheets & pillow covers. I don’t care about the furnishings of the rest of the house as much as my bedroom, it must be comfortable with a bed, chair, & lots of places to put my books.

Oh, if you haven’t figured it out yet. I am also single. Don’t plan on getting married. Don’t plan on having children either. My children are my two puppies, at least with them I know they are not going to smart mouth me & I can protect them from the jerks in the world. I am happy being single & I knew that this was the life I wanted when I was eighteen.
